More than a hundred gardening enthusiasts gathered in Wainfleet recently for a special 50th anniversary horticultural show.
Wainfeet and District Horticultural Society marked its momentous milestone by imparting a golden theme to the recent show at the Mgadalen School.
Chairman David Turner said it was a busy event and a fitting celebration of the society’s anniversary.
“It was very hectic and exhausting but a wonderful day,” he said.
Many of the society’s 160 or so members were joined by representatives of other local gardening clubs in Burgh le Marsh and Alford as well as Wainfleet’s mayor and district councillor - there was even a Danish guest.
“Our fame must have spread internationally,” joked David.
Competitors submitted around 500 different exhibits in 90 different categories ranging from vegetables, potted plants and flowers through to photography and crafts.
The society will be holding a number of other 50th anniversary celebrations including a talk from Nick Hamilton, the son of Gardener’s World legend Geoff Hamilton, from 7pm on November 19 at Wainfleet’s Coronation Hall.
More details will be announced nearer the time.
