Village News: Willoughby

FETE - The famous outlaws, ‘The Wild Bunch’ are to be holed up in the little village of Willoughby over the weekend of July 13 and 14.

Willoughby Fete Committee only has three marshalls and a few deputies but it may not be enough when the Wild Bunch cowboys ride into Willoughby on the weekend of Saturday July 13 and take up residence in their newly constructed town in the corner of the village green.

A local resident said that he’d heard tales of the shootouts that followed the Wild Bunch around, but that they were no match for the Dakota and the Spitfire that are due to fly over on Saturday afternoon. It would be Gunfight at the OK Coral meets Top Gun!

There will be a very special moment when the Spitfire flies over the Willoughby Fete on Saturday, July 13. The aeroplane will be heralded by a World war two siren, and then music and extracts from the speeches made at the time by our great leader, Churchill.

All children will receive a flag to wave and it he flies off into the sunset, the voice of Vera Lynn singing ‘We’ll meet again’ will be heard with everyone being invited to join in the chorus.

An eclectic mix of entertainment and spectacle has been lined up for the visitors to this year’s Willoughby Fete and Craft Fayre on July 13 and 14.

From Belly Dancers to Outlaws, a martial arts demo to face painting, Zorb Balling to traditional skittles - all good family entertainment.

Enjoy Strawberries and Cream on the Green whilst eagerly awaiting the flypast of a World war two Dakota and Spitfire and listen to live music from a group of talented guitarists.

The Dog Show has proved to be very popular in recent years and this event will be bigger and better than ever.

15 different classes for your dogs to enter – and new this time is a dog agility course! Can your dog make it round the course in record time, and win the coveted trophy at the end?

The Willoughby Village Fete committee are looking for something really strange to be the centre piece of the green. Perhaps a 6’inch tall pink Flamingo, a Dalek, or maybe a monkey dressed as an astronaut. Does anyone have such a thing? If so, please contact the committee on
