Village News: Burgh le Marsh

SONGS OF PRAISE - Burgh Methodist Church will hold its annual open air Songs of Praise in the pretty garden at Orby House, Burgh Road, Orby on July 21 at 6pm.

All are welcome to join in this informal act of worship where you can sit and sing favourite hymns.

If wet the event will take place inside Orby House.

Tea and biscuits will be served after the service.

Proceeds will go towards The Phakamisa project (South Africa).

CAR - A car boot sale is held every Thursday morning on the Marsh Lane sports field in aid of the Burgh and District Sports Association.

NURSING - Parish Nursing Drop In at Burgh Baptist Church is held on Fridays from 10am to 11.45am.

People of all ages are welcome to pop in for a check up, support or prayer with Nurse Mandy and the team (no appointment necessary), or just to enjoy a chat over coffee and scones.

PHOENIX GROUP - This group offers support and friendship for those facing loneliness from various circumstances, and prayer is available if desired.

The group also enjoy outings to different venues and guest speakers from time to time.

Meetings are held on Wednesdays from 10.30am to noon at Burgh Baptist Church.

YOUTH - Burgh Baptist Church’s youth programmes offer weekday fun for all ages.

Impact chills out on Mondays at 6.30pm for Year six and up, Kings Club meets on Tuesdays at 6pm for Reception to Year five, and Little Treasures parents and toddlers gather on Thursdays at 1.30pm.

WI - At the July meeting of Burgh le Marsh WI the speaker for the evening was local author Margaret Dickinson who gave an in depth talk on the origins and research of her many books.

A lot of her ideas came from the local area and experiences also chance meetings and conversations.

Margaret owns a huge reference library. Her first book was published in 1968 and now Margaret tries to write one book a year.

During the business session members were informed that the monthly magazine would no longer be available due to lack of advertising support.

Members had baked for the Waddington Airshow. The official opening of the new WI car park was planned for July 13.

Competition winners were M. Pisarska, L. Swatton, and P. Vessey.

Bloom of the month winners were M. Pisarska, A. Chatterton and L. Swatton.

The next meeting is to be held on Wednesday, August 7 when there will be an afternoon tea with entertainment from Dale Diamond.
