The new Poundstretcher store in Skegness is open for business and already getting a good reaction from customers.
Thirty new jobs have been created at the store, on the former Carpetright site on Skegness Retail Park in Wainfleet Road, which opens its doors to the public yesterday (Saturday).
Coun Dick Edginton performed the opening ceremony and welcomed the first customers, along with Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Spiderman.
He said: “This is very good for the town, It shows confidence in the retail sector and I am hoping it will send a message to other retailers that we are open for business and come and invest in Skegness.”
Store manager Darren Gunson, who has relocated from the store in Boston, said he was very excited about the challenge. He said: “The store is much bigger than what I’m used to and we are really pleased with it.
“I started working for Poundstretcher when I was 16 and have been a manager for nine years. I’ve very excited about the challenge - I’m ready for it.”
As well as selling discounted big brands, the store will also feature Poundstretcher’s sister shop, The Pet Hut.
With over 96 stores nationwide, The Pet Hut has become the fastest growing pet retailer in the country, stocking discounted animal care products.
Jill Davison, area manager of the new store, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Poundstretcher to open our doors up in Skegness.
“We have everything people need for their home and garden all under one roof . And ,of course, not forgetting pets.”
One of the first customers was William Hutchinson from Chapel. He said: “I’ve come to have a look at the dog stuff and am very impressed so far.”
Another customer from Croft said: “It’s great with it being Bank Holiday weekend that I can get all of my household products without having to go into town.”
