Design change for station sculptures

SCULPTURES outside Skegness Railway Station will be subject to design changes to prevent a repeat of the accident which forced their closure, councillors have revealed.

Responding to a resident’s query at the latest Skegness Town Council meeting Mayor of Skegness Coun Steve Kirk said that bars were to be installed and shells embedded into the surface of the new ‘dunes’ features.

The alterations, to be carried out by Network Rail, come in response to an accident in which a teenage boy was injured while attempting to cycle on the structures, which form part of extensive station improvement works.

Coun Kirk and Coun Ken Milner felt it was a shame that ‘one moment of stupidity can ruin it for everybody’, while Coun Phil Kemp believed the accident could have been avoided if the town council had been consulted in the first place.
