Details have been released of how the Yuletide season will be celebrated in Skegness this year.

The Skegness Partnership has established a new events and marketing working group led by town manager Lisa Collins and Hildreds shopping centre manager Steve Andrews.

Its members have been working towards a calendar of events for 2015, but has also been teaming up with other groups in the town to sprinkle some festive magic on the town in the coming weeks.

This includes this year’s Christmas lights switch on, which will take place on Thursday, November 27, outside the Hildreds shopping centre.

Lincs FM presenter Rob Hammond will compére the evening alongside Mayor of Skegness Coun George Saxon and special guest local teen Ryan Smith, whose remarkable recovery from a brain injury sustained after a collision while cycling without a helmet has touched the hearts of many.

There will be a reindeer parade from 6.30pm and Santa’s grotto from 7.15pm, with the centre open until 9pm.

On Saturday and Sunday, November 29 and 30, there will be a Victorian Christmas market from 10am-4pm outside the Hildreds.

It will feature a range of stalls booked through the carnival committee, with a further market planned for Saturday, December 14.

The group is also organising a ‘Light Up A Life’ Christmas tree project.

This will see clear glass baubles on sale in the H-art Gallery, in the Hildreds Shopping Centre, which can be decorated in memory of lost loved ones.

Proceeds will go to charity and future Skegness Partnership activities. The aim is to move the tree somewhere new each year.

The tree switch on service by the fellowship of churches takes place Thursday, December 4, at 6pm.
