THE Sun was the star of the show at the Gibraltar Point nature reserve near Skegness at the weekend.
The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust’s latest astronomy-themed event focussed on our nearest star.
And the weather was perfect for the occasion - with clear views of the Sun through specialist equipment which cut out 99.9999 percent of the light from the star and made it safe to watch.
Theose who attended were treated to a view of a sun spot and huge ‘prominences’ as large as three or four Earths, which stretched away from the surface into out space.
Astronomer Paul Money then gave an illustrated talk about the Sun, and the progress of the famous Voyager space probes at the edge of the solar system.
