A flagship hotel in Wainfleet reached for the stars - and got more than the licensees ever imagined.

Iain and Johann Jubbs took on the Bateman’s Brewery-owned Woolpack Pub and Kitchen in August last year.

The Standard was invited to see the results of the £200,000 refurb in January and since then Iain and Johann have been working to build up their business and add to their five star Tripadvisor rating.

On Wednesday, June Howard and Bill Hutchinson, of the Skegness and East Coast Hospitality Association, presented them with a four and a half star Rest Assured certificate, a new East Lincolnshire quality assessment scheme using an independent professional evaluation.

Iain said they were delighted with the award. He said: “We never expected five stars because we don’t have a lift and never will have. We concentrated on making what we do have the best we can and focussed on what we know - which is good food sourcing local produce.”

June said: “Our members are always striving to ensure visitors have a great experience and our Rest Assured assessment scheme has also helped to drive up standards.”
