A bumper year for the Spilsby Show netted record donations to worthy causes, organisers have announced.

Publicity manager Brendan Bugg said the committee were ‘astonished’ to learn on Monday night that more than £9,000 had been be raised - 25 per cent up on the previous event and the largest ever amount for a one day show.

“Following on from the massive disappointment in 2012 when the weather cancelled the show and left us with significant losses it seems we have indeed done as we were hoping and well and truly bounced back in the strongest way we could have imagined,” he said.

“To not only turn it around but to also be 25 per cent up was amazing.”

The donation tally is just one of many records broken by July’s show, with attendance figures, trade stand numbers and stall holder each surpassing the previous best. The programme was also the biggest yet.

As ever, a substantial amount of the money will go to the show ground host, Spilsby Pavilion, which is to be used to create a conference facility in the old ladies changing room.

Other major benefactors include the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and between 25 and 30 other charities and organisations.

The Spilsby Show Committee has made an appeal for volunteers to get involved, following the retirement of several key figures over recent weeks.
