Spilsby seeks councillors

Candidates are being invited to apply for three vacant positions on Spilsby Town Council.

Co-opted members will be appointed after candidates failed to stand for three of the 12 positions at the May election.

The council is looking for applicants who will speak on behalf of the community and make informed decisions on information received. Councillors need to work in partnership with community groups, voluntary organisations and other local authorities to benefit the community.

The role also involves getting best value for money for projects and amenities and ensuring that Council Tax money is used to benefit the residents of the town.

Training will be given to successful applicants via the Lincolnshire Association for Local Councils training programmes.

Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

Be registered as a local government elector for the parish on the current electoral register

Have occupied as tenant or owner any land or other premises in the parish during the previous 12 months

Have had the principal or only place of work in the previous 12 months in the parish

Lived either in the parish or within three miles during the previous 12 months

Applications should be sent to:

Town Clerk, Bonny Smith, The Franklin Hall, Halton Road, Spilsby, Lincs, PE23 5LA. For more information call 01790 753189 or email spilsbytowncouncil@btconnect.com

The deadline for applications is noon on June 26 following which candidates will be invited to attend an informal interview.
