Children in Skegness are being challenged to design posters to highlight a charity Christmas presents appeal.
Specsavers in Lumley Road, Skegness, recently launched an appeal to collect Christmas presents for disadvantaged children attending Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre during the festive period.
To get the appeal off to a flying start, Skegness Specsavers wants local children to design eye-catching posters that encourage people to donate gifts. Entries will be posted inside the store for the duration of the appeal. The store’s favourite design will be awarded a prize of a £30 shopping voucher to spend at Argos.
Ideal gifts for the holiday centre include clothing suitable for boys and girls between the ages of seven and 13, toys and sweets.
Donations from both customers and local businesses are welcome at the store before the end of this Friday (November 16).
Optical assistant Kate Johnson, who is co-ordinating the appeal, said: “We ran a similar appeal last year and the gifts made a difference to children who deserve a break. As well as customers, we would love to hear from local businesses who would like to back the campaign.”
Established in 1891, the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre offers holiday breaks in Skegness to more than 450 children every holiday season. Children from Derbyshire, aged between seven and 13, whose circumstances have led to them being disadvantaged, are provided with residential breaks and leisure activities.
David Harris, fundraising officer at the centre, added: “We are really grateful for Specsavers support in the run up to Christmas.
“We try to make it as fun as we can for the children staying with us at this time of year.
“Our young guests are in a disadvantaged position through no fault of their own and any gifts would make their Christmas that extra bit special.”
Posters designed to support the Christmas presents appeal can be handed over to members of the team at Skegness Specsavers in Lumley Road. Alternatively, send entries to Specsavers, 66 Lumley Road Skegness, Lincolnshire, PE25 3NG.
