Friends and teachers welcomed Ryan Smith back to Skegness Grammar School for the first time since his life changing accident.
Ryan, 17, returned his old school for an emotional reunion before Christmas.
The Chapel St Leonards teenager had been due to join the school’s sixth form when he suffered severe brain injuries following a collision with a van while on a cycle in July 2013. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Friends from the school had joined the large crowd of well-wishers greeting Ryan on his return home in September following months of treatment at The Children’s Trust Rehabilitation Centre in Surrey.
Ryan received a hero’s welcome on his arrival at his old school with dad Mark.
Members of the sixth form charity committee recently donated £694.55 to the Ryan Smith Foundation which promotes cycling safety.
Mark said: “It was quite emotional for Ryan and he was beaming from ear to ear. Everyone at the school has been very supportive and I would like to thank them for all they have done.”
