AROUND 50 members of Skegness U3A visited Butlins last Thursday for a special day out.
They were met by Jackie Peech Corssen, the PA to the Resort Director, who showed them one of the gold star chalets with its excellent decor, lovely carpets, curtains and all mod cons.
They were then given a tour of an original chalet, with its bunk beds, blue painted wardrobe and chest of drawers, which in 1936 was no doubt considered luxurious.
There was opportunity to view many of the other attractions and some of the party even had a ride on the carousel.
“The original slogan of ‘Our Intent is all for your Delight’ is still true today, but today gone is the Hi-De-Hi image and the knobbly knees contests,” said a U3A spokesperson. “These have been replaced with first rate accommodation and entertainment.”
“There have been many changes in its 75 years history but one thing that has never changed is the management and staff’s determination to ensure a memorable holiday.”
At the meeting next Wednesday October 19 at the Crown Hotel at 9.30am Chris Lines will speak on Coast Watch.
