A bid to have Pier Field in Skegness registered as a community asset has won the support of the town council.
Campaigners this week delayed a decision by East Lindsey District Council to sell the seafront site, which could be the location of a Premier Inn.
The district council now has eight weeks to consider the application.
A meeting of Skegness Town Council yesterday (January 14) backed the move by the Save the Foreshore group. Councillors unanimously voted in favour of a motion put forward by Coun Maggie Gray supporting the application.
Coun Gray said: “The main use of Pier Field in the past has been to further the social, cultural and economic well-being of the community and it can continue to do so in the future.”
Further support has come from Skegness Chamber of Commerce, Skegness, East Coast and Wolds Hospitality Association (SECWHA) and a petition signed by 1650 residents and visitors.
