Yesterday was Skegness’s hottest day of the year so far, the town’s official Met observer has confirmed.
Skegness weatherman Brian Porter said the mercury tipped 27C for the first time this summer, exceeding the previous record of 24C set last month. Even the coolest overnight temperature remained above 17C.
Elsewhere, temperatures soared past 30 with Heathrow recording the nation’s warmest at 34.1C - hotter than Mumbai in India.
The Met Office’s official blog attributed the warmer weather on hot air being drawn in across the Spanish plateau, which has now been replaced by cooler Atlantic air from the east, returning temperatures to around the seasonal average.
Skegness has been forecast highs of 24C today and 22C over the weekend.
