A HOLIDAY romance, which blossomed into a 70 year marriage was recently celebrated by the happy couple and their family on a wonderful summer’s day.
John and Margarita Gill (pictured) marked their platinum wedding anniversary with a delicious buffet meal on the lawn at Syne Hills Care Home on Friday.
Their children and grandchildren jetted back to the UK from far flung destinations in Tokyo and Costa Rica to partake in the auspicious occasion.
The couple, who are both 92-years-old, first met on a holiday in Wales and were married soon after.
Just days after the wedding John enlisted in the RAF to help with the war effort and was billeted to fight in the Middle East, where he was captured and remained as a prisoner of war for three years.
Back home his concerned wife kept his spirits up by sending frequent letters with tales of her life in England.
John was eventually released and after the war was won, he trained to be a teacher, going on to work at Skegness Junior School and Ingoldmells Primary School, where he was headmaster.
John and Margarita have both been senior club members at various sporting associations including Seathorne Golf Club.
Margarita has also won awards for her acting abilities as a member of Skegness Playgoers.
They put their success down to ‘give and take and loving one another.’
