DEDICATED young scouts have managed to earn their bronze Duke of Edinburgh award by volunteering their time.
Members of the 1st Skegness Explorers, Zach Bonser, Tom Nuttall, Matthew Harris, Jack Reavy and Jamie Bradley volunteered at the Tom Thumb Scout campsite near Spilsby, helping to clear trees and rubbish to make way for the new facilities at the site.
The boys have also developed their own conservation skills, working at the Eco Centre in Skegness, doing activities such as hedge laying, tree coppicing and tree felling.
Helen Nuttall, leader of the 1st Skegness Explorers, said: “The boys have put in a lot of effort over the last few months, helping others, and this donation towards the sport component of their awards is a fabulous reward for all their hard work.”
The scouts were also give a donation by The Lincolnshire Shooting centre in Burgh after owners recognised the young men needed help to finish the final part of their award.
Coun Danny Brookes, through the help of Brenda Futers, Chairman of the Skegness Labour Party, was able to make the donation and was delighted to be able to hand over the cheque to the leader.
The boys are now hoping to continue with their silver award and then the final big goal will be the gold award.
