Two Skegness runners are ready for a night of cabaret before pounding the streets of London to raise money for ‘Children with Cancer UK.

Sue Spence, 57, and Laurence Hawkins, 38, are both members of the Skegness based Savona Striders running club and both work at Hawkins Electrical, Skegness.

Sue once applied to run the marathon ten years ago, but had to pull out due to ill health.

However, now, fighting fit, Sue has been running seriously for a year and decided to raise money for a charity that ‘has touched her heart’, since successfully applying for the famous run, on April 13.

Sue added: “It was great to be accepted and any money we raise will be given to Children with Cancer UK. The charity has had a lot of coverage and I just felt the time was right to support it. Training’s been hard as we’ve been running 40 miles a week.”

In addition to the run, the pair have also organised a Skegness Gala Cabaret Night to add funds to their cause.

“Now all we need is your help,” said Sue.

All in aid of Children with Cancer UK, anyone who wishes to attend the event can take part. Businesses can support the evening by booking tables for the charity dinner and or donating prizes that can be raffled off during the evening.

The event will take place on Saturday, March 22, at the Grand Central Complex, on Skegness seafront.

The gala evening will start at 7pm, with a drinks reception and will feature a ‘glittering array’ of local talent from Richie Smith, Taff Lloyd, Molly Hall, The Dreamgirls, Janice Sutton’s orphans from ‘Annie’ and host Andrew Davison and guests.

A DJ will also provide music until late on the night.

In addition to entertainment, the evening will include a three course meal included in the £25 per person ticket price. To book call Grand Central on 01754 228232 or ring Sue Spence on 07963202208.
