A MOTION which would see no usual Skegness Town Council meetings starting before 7pm was supported by a councillor majority last week.
Coun Phil Kemp, put forward a proposal which was seconded by Coun Gary Ellis, to see if a change could be made to a standing order, so meetings of the council be held at the town hall at 7pm unless the council otherwise decided at a previous meeting.
Coun Kemp felt that meetings starting at 7pm would give all councillors a fair chance to attend.
However, some councillors held reservations about supporting the motion because it would mean the mayor would not be able to call a meeting any earlier in emergency situations without prior agreeing to it at a meeting.
Coun Neil Cooper thought it would remove ‘flexibility’ and Coun Steve Kirk asked if Coun Kemp would consider rephrasing the motion.
But Coun Kemp felt it should remain and the council voted via a majority to support the motion.
