A new bus stop on Lumley Road has been installed and already in operation, as of August 5
The stop is part of a wider trial being conducted by the highways team, to improve the flow of traffic in the area.
“The location of the new stop was chosen as it is of equal distance between the bus station and the Tower Cinema bus stop and with these two existing bus stops being quite a distance apart, this new one is being introduced to improve access to public transport.” Said a spokesperson for the Lincolnshire County Council highways and transport division.
The trial is a temporary arrangement and there is an opportunity for the public to feedback their views on it by calling the LCC highways division customer services team on 01522 782070.
From a public transport point of view, it is hoped that shortening the distance between the two stations; by adding another stop between the bus station and Tower Cinema stop will benefit elderly residents or those with limited mobility, by providing them with a shorter distance to walk to and from bus stops and to enable a smoother flow of passengers between the stops.
The highways team are also in negotiations with taxi companies regarding improvements to the taxi rank markings close to the bus stops.
