The Green Party is set to stage a demonstration in Skegness tomorrow (February 27) in support of rail nationalisation.
Prospective parliamentary candidate Victoria Percival will be attending along with members of the East Lincolnshire Green Party.
The event takes place at Skegness Station from 11am and 1pm.
Their demonstration is to bring attention to Green MP Caroline Lucas’s private members bill on rail nationalisation that will get its second reading tomorrow.
The purpose of the bill is to require the Government to bring the rail network back in to public hands as the present franchises expire or when the operating companies break their franchise agreement.
Speaking in support of the bill, Victoria Percival, who hopes to represent the Greens in Boston and Skegness, said: “We know that a majority of people support bringing the rail network back into public hands and we wanted to be able to tell people about Caroline’s bill to show that this is very possible without huge cost.”
She added: “The Green Party are the only party listening to the British public, this is why as Green Party members are showing solidarity with Caroline Lucus’s bill, and the campaign Bring Back British Rail.”
