THE leader of East Lindsey District Council, Coun Doreen Stephenson, has defended the poor attendance record of some of her colleagues at executive board meetings.

In response to concerns expressed by Coun Ed Mossop, she said she had no intention of “frogmarching” board members to meetings.

“They do a wonderful job,” she insisted. “They are totally committed to their portfolio responsibilities, but much of their work is done behind the scenes.”

Coun Mossop declined to identify any individual, but he said there was one who had only attended 33 per cent of meetings since September last year.

“Bearing in mind that board members receive an allowance of £4,536, where is the value for money?” he demanded. “What measures are you going to put in place to improve attendance?”

The leader insisted that “value for money” was reflected in performance and improvements across the individual portfolios of her colleagues.
