Volunteers at a church in Sausthorpe have been helping the raise the roof by holding a flower festival.

Seven friends of St Andrew’s Church spent two days preparing 30 arrangements for the All Things Bright and Beautiful festival at the weekend. It raised £212 to go towards the £3,500 cost of insurance for a £90,000 grant to repair the roof.

Treasurer Jean Ianson said: “Everyone worked really hard and the flowers looked wonderful. Unfortunately we were not well-supported by the local community but people came from the surrounding area who had never been in the church before.

“We also hold coffee mornings and have enough to pay the insurance until August, but need to raise more to get us through to November.”

The church with its historic spire is a landmark for anyone travelling through the Wolds towards the coast. To support the appeal, email
