Two finalists for area at awards

Two entrants from the Skegness area are amongst the finalists in the Lincolnshire Environmental Awards.

Seagull Recycling and the Coastal Eco Centre in Skegness has been nominated in the community category and Burgh le Marsh based J.L. Dodsworth for the farm/rural enterprise award.

Situated on an old landfill site, the Coastal Eco Centre runs environmental campaigns and skills-based outdoor projects for families, young people, disabled individuals and community groups.

They are working with over twenty primary schools offering innovative learning outside the classroom and helping to develop ‘grow their own’ activities.

J.L. Dodsworth has converted 180 acres of wet grassland to provide habitat for breeding waders and waterfowl. Species that have nested include lapwing, ringed and little ringed plover, avocet and skylark. The area also provides overwintering for many waterfowl and a stop-off point for many migratory birds.

A judging panel, chaired by renowned environmentalist David Bellamy, will announce the winners tomorrow (Thursday) at an award ceremony in Lincoln.

The awards are organised by Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust and The Rotary Club of Lindum, Lincoln.
