Search and rescue team seeks volunteers in Skegness and Boston areas

Lincolnshire Lowland Search and Rescue (LincsLSAR), which is a registered charity, assists in the search, location, welfare and rescue of missing children and vulnerable missing adults.

It utilises professionally trained volunteers to support the emergency services during any high-risk incident and natural disasters.

LincsLSAR is a member unit of Lowland Rescue, which consists of 36 teams nationwide.The charity receives no government funding and relies entirely upon support and donations from businesses and the public.

Volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year and they provide their services free of charge.

They come from have a variety of backgrounds, from military personnel, to police officers and university students. Each and every member of the team brings their own skills and knowledge and an enthusiasm for the role.

The primary role of LincsLSAR is to assist Lincolnshire and Humberside Police in cases of high-risk missing

children and vulnerable missing adults.

This could be urban, rural or waterway searching and in order to be effective, the volunteers are trained to high standards in a number of key areas, including search techniques, navigation, first aid and safeguarding to

name just a few.

Volunteers are also invited to undertake specialist roles once they are qualified as Search Technicians, in

areas such as Water Bank Search, Bike Search Team, Dog Search Team.

They have recently welcomed an ex-military search dog trainer to the team. He will be carrying out all of the search dog training, which is a huge asset to the search and rescue capabilities of the team.

The team are also seeking to embrace future technologies, with drone training. Of course, this will require the purchase of a drone with thermal imaging technology, but this has already proven itself to be an invaluable new method of search and rescue.

In order to provide the team with the vital equipment they need, a team of fundraisers are constantly applying for

funding, grants and finding ways of raising funds for the team. They ask if businesses can nominate them as their

charity of the year, or provide them with one-off donations.

They have set up LincsLSAR with www.easyfundraising.org.uk, where the public can support them as their chosen charity and when shopping online with certain retailers,

They will also be attending the RAF Coningsby Families Day on Friday, July 24, where they will be fundraising,

whilst supporting the armed forces.

The main fundraising campaign this year is to enable LincsLSAR to procure an Incident Control Vehicle. This is a

vitally important tool for the team in order for them to transport equipment to locations,
