Ruth is a double award winner!

After suffering the loss of her husband, a popular porter at a Horncastle hotel has been presented with not one, but two awards for her hard work despite her heartache.

Ruth Coldron, a familiar face at the popular Admiral Rodney in Horncastle, has been named their Night Porter of the Year, by The Coaching Inn Group, who operate the hotel and over 30 other hotels and inns in market towns across the country.

Ruth, who has worked The Admiral Rodney for over ten years, has also been chosen by colleagues as their Hotel Hero of the Year for always going the extra mile to help in any way she can.

Her achievement is even more impressive as she has worked hard at the Rodney even after losing her husband Mark aged just 38 to cancer before the first Covid lockdown.

“All the team here are like an extended family and I don’t know how I would have coped without all their support to see me through after the untimely death of my husband, Mark,” she said.

“I love being the night porter on duty from 11am until 6pm, because it generally quite and I can crack on and get things done, including cleaning and polishing and setting up for breakfast or for weddings, or any other events which might be going on.”

And on some days when she is not on night duties, she also works front of house on waitressing duties, or helping out behind the bar.
