A number of residents in two villages near Boston have been left with no water to flush their toilet or take a shower.

This afternoon, Anglian Water have released another red alert for areas of Wrangle and Old Leake, which are currently affected by low water pressure or no water at all.

The statement, put out on their website at 2.20pm today, reads: “We’re really sorry but some customers in Wrangle, Boston may have low water pressure or no water at all.

"We’re aware of reports of a loss of supply in the area and are working hard to identify the cause so that we can get your supply back to normal as soon as possible.

"Our systems indicate that this could be caused by a leak in the area, so if you’ve spotted a leak that we may not be aware of, call us on 03457 145 145 to report that.”

Susan Turner, of Old Leake, who lives near the Wrangle end of the village, contacted us to say: “We have had ongoing issues for the past few years. Our pressure isn’t great at the best of times but we are having and have had over the years frequent episodes of not being able to shower, use the washing machine and flush the toilet. I consider these to be essential things for a paying customer to be able to do.

"Over the past couple of days, during the hottest days ever, we have had no water at all.

"We were not even offered bottled water and as a priority customer I personally find this totally unacceptable.

“In fact I find the whole situation totally unacceptable, as do a huge amount of other residents.

"It is high time this was now dealt with.”

In a statement issued to LincolnshireWorld, Anglian Water said: “We’re really sorry some customers in Old Leake and Wrangle have experienced low water pressure, or an interruption to their water supply recently.

"Given the hot weather, demand for water has been incredibly high. This means right across the whole of the country there is always the risk that at peak times, pressure may drop.

"This is as true for the network in this area as it is anywhere else.

"Combined with that, our teams have been working round the clock to fix three small mains in the area. These repairs were made quickly so as to not put additional pressure on customer supplies.

“We always aim to fix issues like this without anyone noticing, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience and frustration this caused.”

Anglian Water have said the water tower in Old Leake was ‘out of service for an extended period’ last year to complete routine maintenance on the structure, which ‘resulted in reduced water pressure for some customers during peak times of the day’. This work was completed and the tower is now back into supply.
