Appeal for Old King’s Head photos and memories and other Neighbourhood News

The charity is hoping to build on the records it holds on the 16th century building (pictured) so that it can produce a detailed timeline of stories and photos.

Any photos or information shared will be used on a new website which is being developed to increase awareness of The Old King’s Head’s history and attract tourists to the area.

The charity is particularly looking for any information about the inn during the 1700s or on the escapades of previous landlords and tenants from the 1500s to the present day.

Details should be sent to okh@heritagelincolnshire.org by Tuesday, March 31.

The Old’s King Head is currently being restored to open to the public as a luxury B&B, café, deli, and community space this spring.

GOSBERTON

* Fun and Fellowship

Gosberton Baptist Fun and Fellowship on a Friday was held recently at the home of Des and Rene Curtis.

Members played Triominoes. Refreshments were served by Mrs Curtis.

* World Day of Prayer

A reminder that Gosberton Methodist Church will hold a World Day of Prayer service on Friday, March 6, at 2pm.

This year’s theme Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk has been prepared in Zimbabwe.

There will be refreshments and a bring and buy stall. 

* Lent course

A Lent course (Stations of the Cross) starts at St Peter and St Paul’s Church on Friday, March 6, at 7pm.

* Jigsaw Club

Gosberton Methodist Jigsaw Club meets at the Methodist Church on Saturday, March 7, from 2-4pm.

Members play dominoes and Scrabble, enjoy a cuppa and cakes, and can borrow a jigsaw for 50 pence.

Gosberton Women’s Institute will hold a birthday meeting at the Public Hall on Tuesday, March 10, at 7.15pm.

Gosberton Ladies Circle meet in the Methodist Church on Thursday, March 12, at 7.30pm.

Entry is priced at £4.

CLOUGH & RISEGATE

* Lincolnshire evening

St Gilbert and St Hugh’s welcomed 88 friends of the church to a Lincolnshire evening on Friday.

The event was organised by Sandra Thompson.

Jane Tidswell and Sally Spridgen helped with the organising of the food - all Lincolnshire fare.

A selection of sweets were delegated out to church members and friends.

Thanks were given to all those who helped organise the event, include those who donated the 39 raffle prizes.

The raffle was organised by Sandra; the MC was David Dickinson.

Jeff Woods (Pavanotti) gave a talk, speaking about his life, his voice training, and his singing.

Proceeds from the event went to church funds.

* Concert

Gosberton Clough Centenary Methodist Church is having a concert on Saturday, March 21, at 7pm.

There will be several artists taking part and it will be followed by a supper.

Proceeds to church funds.

NEW BOLINGBROKE

* Local History Group

The next meeting of the New Bolingbroke Local History Group will be held in the Town Hall in New Bolingbroke on Tuesday, March 10, at 7.30pm.

Natasha Johnson, senior gardener of Gunby Hall, will give a talk titled The Gardens of Gunby Hall.

Admission is priced at £1 for members and £2.50 for non-members.

Tea/coffee and biscuits will be available.

SWINESHEAD

* Gardening

Swineshead Gardening Club holds its next meeting on Wednesday, March 11.

It will take place at the usual venue of Swinfields, in Butlers Way (PE20 3HD), starting at 7pm.

Members will be welcoming a speaker from Vine House, in Market Deeping, for a talk about farming and wildlife.

After the talk, there will be refreshments, a raffle, and a short annual general meeting.

New members are welcome from across the Boston-area. The first meeting is free.

The year ahead includes a programme of speakers and trips out.
