More delays on roads around Skegness: '˜But it will be worth it'

Roadworks are driving motorists travelling around Skegness crazy - and, with caravan parks now opening for the season along the coast, delays are set to get worse for at least another month.

There is hardly an approach to Skegness or Ingoldmells where traffic lights are not operating due to road improvement works and emergency repairs to drains,

However, a local authority is urging residents and visitors to be patient because when finished it will “help alleviate congestion and encouraging people to choose a greener, cleaner form of transport”.

It is part of Lincolnshire County Council’s £5.7m Go Skegness project that will include night works to complete the surfacing and lining of the bus and cycle lanes along the carriageway between Butlins and Skegness Sand Caravan Park.

Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “The Go Skegness improvement works taking place along the A52 Roman Bank, between North Shore Road in Skegness and Butlins in Ingoldmells, are still on schedule to be completed by the end of March.

“When finished, the two existing bus lanes along the road will be joined up and the former footway between Butlins and Skegness upgraded to a shared path for cycling and walking.

“The works are being carried out overnight to minimise disruption and, once complete, these and all of the other improvements part of Go Skegness will help alleviate congestion, particularly during the summer months, while also encouraging people to choose a greener, cleaner form of transport.”

WHERE YOU COULD GET HELD UP

Beacon Way in Skegness - a popular ‘rat-run’ for motorists heading for Ingoldmells who want to avoid the town centre is closed from today while Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board carry out improvements to drainage. It is expected the road will be closed until March 15. Drivers are advised to take the alternative route along Church Lane, A52, A158, Burgh Old Road and Beacon Way. The A52 works, from Butlins to Skegness Sand Caravan Park, start on Monday when the road will be closed from 7pm to 7am for two weeks. The diversion route during the works will be A158 to Gunby Roundabout, Gunby Road, Marsh Lane, Orby Road and A52 Roman Bank.

Drivers should also expect delays at roadworks along Burgh Road and in town on Lumley Road.
