A DISABLED couple and their dog braved torrential rain to complete an epic mobility scooter challenge in aid of a cancer charity.
Carol and John Palmer along with Tess the dog spent three days travelling the 81 miles from their Mansfield home to Fantasy Island, Ingoldmells, on their trusty scooters.
Carol said: “It was an absolutely fantastic experience, apart from when the rain came down which was horrendous.
“Thank you to all the lovely and generous people who have supported us along our journey, the people driving past, giving money, waving and hooting their horns and the businesses that helped us out.
“We enjoyed ourselves so much that we are going to do it again in September.”
Having suffered the turmoil of losing a loved one to breast cancer, Carol and John chose Cancer Research UK to be the recipient of their charitable efforts.
So far their sponsorship total has reached £400 but they are optimistic that total will rise even more in the days to come.
All three of the fundraising travellers were dressed in pink throughout the journey, to signify their support for the charity.
They had also painted their scooter pink but torrential downpours as they approached Lincoln washed it all away.
Kind-hearted businesses, guest houses and caravan sites who were touched by the Palmers’ charitable spirit also offered their assistance along the way, with free accommodation, sponsorship and advertising..
With their scooters requiring regular recharges, the couple had to plan their schedule very carefully so as to travel the maximum distance each day without stranding themselves without power miles away from an electrical supply.
Despite facing numerous obstacles along the way, the charitable husband and wife team have said they intend to undertake the same challenge again to raise funds for a local hospital.
