Former Radio 1 DJ Mike Read will be in Skegness on Saturday, April 4 in support of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP).

The writer, journalist and television presenter will be on Skegness seafront at 4pm and then invites the public to meet him at the Seaview Pub on North Parade, in Skegness from 4.30 - 6.30pm.

UKIP member Read hit the headlines last year when he wrote and recorded a song in support of the party, called: ‘UKIP Calypso’.

This was later released in October 2014 as a single credited to The Independents.

Read took the decision to withdraw the song from sale on October 22 and apologised “unreservedly” that it had “unintentionally caused offence”, to some members of the public and following criticism from BBC Asian Network’s presenter, Nihal.

Earlier, leader of UKIP Nigel Farage endorsed the song and encouraged the party’s supporters to download the song.

On October 26, 2014 the song reached number 44 on the UK Singles Chart.
