Mark of respect for Dambusters during Skegness Town Council meeting

Skegness Town Councillors paid minute’s silence in respect for the brave souls who lost their lives during the Dambusters mission, 70 years ago.

Coun Steve Kirk suggested the 53 lost from the RAF’s 617 Squadron may have seen the area as the last thing they saw before their death.

On May 16, 1943, 19 Lancaster bombers took off from near RAF Scampton with the aim to attack dams in the heart of Germany with bouncing bombs.

The minute’s silence was paid at the annual meeting of Skegness Town Council on Wednesday, May 1.
