A team of enthusiastic volunteers are needed to help run a community library in Spilsby, which is being taken over by Lincolnshire Co-op.

Lincolnshire County Council will hand over responsibility for running Spilsby Library, currently in West End Villas, to Lincolnshire Co-op at the end of September and the Society is calling for volunteers to come forward to staff it.

Initially, the library will stay in its current building before moving over to Lincolnshire Co-op’s food store in High Street, where a bespoke space for the facility will be created. The relocation will take place later this year.

Before the library moves, the aim is to recruit a team of volunteers who will help man it during the current opening hours of 10am- 2pm Wednesday, 1pm - 6pm on Friday and 10am to 1pm Saturday.

It will have longer opening hours in its new location in the Lincolnshire Co-op food store but these are yet to be confirmed.

The new library will be accessed through Lincolnshire Co-op’s food store and will be created in space currently used for storage. It will feature a stock of around 4,000 books, including fiction, non-fiction, a children’s section, plus audio and large print titles. Facilities will include a self-service machine, a seating area and two People’s Network computers.

Lincolnshire Co-op already runs a community library in Waddington.
