Two brothers from Skegness are sharing the joys of fatherhood after their baby sons were born on the same day.
In an extraordinary coincidence Jason and Danny Butler’s boys both arrived at Boston Pilgrim Hospital on November 13.
Jason’s partner Claire Murphy gave birth to their son Joey at 5.40am before Danny celebrated the arrival of Layton with girlfriend Kelly Quinn at 11.30am.
Claire had been due to give birth five days earlier and went through an 18-hour labour before Joey was delivered by emergency C-section. Kelly’s baby had been expected to arrive on November 21, but was in breach and also needed to be delivered by cesarean. Joey weighed in at 8lb 1oz while Layton tipped the scales at 8lb 13oz. Staff at the hospital did not realise the two boys were cousins until they noticed their dads together on the ward.
The bond has grown between Jason, 25, and Danny, 22, since the births they said.
Danny, who works as a barman at the North Shore Hotel in Skegness, said: “I love being a dad. There have been a few sleepless nights since Layton was born but it is getting better. Kelly and I had not said to anyone that we wanted a baby.
“When I told mum and dad that Kelly was pregnant they said Jason had something to tell me. When I called and told him I was going to be a dad he just said ‘snap’. My mum and dad cannot believe this has happened - it is going to be expensive for them when the boys have their birthdays.”
Claire and Kelly, who are both 24, had been friends at the Earl of Scarbrough High School, but lost touch after leaving.
Claire said: “I was invited to a family diner after I started dating Jason and saw Kelly there with Danny. We became friends again and now having children together has made us even closer.”
Kelly added: “We thought we might give birth in the same week, but never imagined it would happen the same day. We supported each other through our pregnancies and are comparing baby notes.”
