Mrs Joan Scott (nee Brown) a former resident of Spilsby and East Keal passed away peacefully at Bennett Lodge Residential Home in Essex on April 4 at the age of 86.

Born in Carrington Joan grew up in East Keal as part of a large family.

She qualified as a state registered nurse in 1950 and one of her first nursing sister roles was at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, where she worked alongside Mr Archibald McIndoe, pioneering plastic surgery particularly for burns victims of World War Two.

Returning to native Lincolnshire, Joan was senior night sister in charge of both The Gables and Grace Swan Hospitals before retiring with over 24 years’ service. Joan carried on part time nursing in a care home after retiring.

After husband Peter passed away in 1992 and youngest son Neil unexpectedly passed away at the age of 34 in 1996 Joan moved to Essex to be near her oldest son, Kevin and wife Karen.

Joan quickly made new friends and became captain of the sheltered accommodations quiz team.

As well as Kevin and Karen, Joan leaves behind adored grandchildren Heidi, Casey and Elkie, brothers Reg, Ray and Den and sisters Eileen and Pam.

Joan was cremated in Essex on April 17 and will be laid to rest with husband Pete, in East Keal churchyard on June 9. The service will take place at 1.30 pm by Father Peter.

All friends and family are welcome to the church and the after service function to celebrate the life of Joan.
