A couple stranded in New York following the birth of their premature baby are being inundated with offers of help and support from back home.
More than £6,200 has been pledged on a fundraising site for Katie Amos and Lee Johnston who are due to spend several weeks in the city following the unexpected birth of baby Dax.
The family may not be able to return home to Burgh le Marsh until March after Dax arrived 11 weeks early during a four day Christmas break in the Big Apple.
They are waiting to find out if a potential £130,000 medical bill, will be covered by the travel insurance policy.
Lee, 29, is a personal trainer at New Era Gym in Skegness where Katie, 30, runs fitness classes. Colleagues at the gym are fundraising to help cover the couple’s medical and living costs while in the United States.
Katie and Lee have also recieved a celebrity support from author and model Katie Price who tweeted: “I hope their insurance company pay, my insurance company paid when I had Jett in France.”
Dax weighed just 3lbs when he arrived in the world at the Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan on Sunday. Speaking to the Standard, dad Lee said: “Katie and myself are doing great and most importantly so is Dax. Happy New Year.”
A Facebook site called ‘Dax’s Tale of New York’ has more than 11,000 likes and Twitter account @JohnstonDax set up.
