Skegness born woman appointed as acting chair to lead Lincolnshire’s hospitals

The NHS Trust Development Authority (NHS TDA) has today announced the appointment of Penny Owston as acting chair of United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust with immediate effect which follows the retirement of the former chairman, Paul Richardson.

Mrs Owston has been a Non-Executive Director with the trust since April 2010 and has been appointed as acting chair for a term of up to six months.

Born in Skegness, Penny is a practising solicitor-advocate specialising in children’s law. She is a tutor on the Nottingham Law School MBA programme in legal practice management and is a WABC accredited business coach.

Between 2000 and 2005 Penny was the Law Society council member representing the Lincolnshire constituency.

In 2005, Penny was appointed to the Board of the Solicitors Regulation Authority and served on its Compliance, Rules & Ethics and Equality & Diversity committees.

Mrs Owston said: “This is an important and challenging time for the organisation as the Trust continues a relentless focus on improving services.

“As part of my role as a non-executive director at the trust, I have been privileged to meet a wide variety of staff throughout the organisation and it is very clear to me that there is a desire and a commitment to providing the best possible care to the people of Lincolnshire.”

Non-executive appointments to NHS Trusts made by the NHS TDA are subject to the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

Penny Owston is entitled to receive a remuneration of £23,600 per annum.
