SWIMMERS in Skegness will be able to use Skegness’ Outdoor Swimming Pool from May in 2012, after East Lindsey District Council agreed to bring forward its traditional July opening date.
Weather Permitting, the Outdoor Pool at the Embassy will be open for the full week of Spring Bank Holiday and weekends through until the final week of June when it will be open seven days a week
Opening the Pool from Spring Bank Holiday will cost around £5,500 but it is aimed directly to help attract visitors to the resort earlier in the season.
Newly elected District Councillor for Skegness, Councillor Steve O’Dare, welcomed the news: “This was a local issue that I asked the Council to address on being elected.
“I am delighted that it has been met with a speedy and positive response, which is good news for local people and for visitors alike. “
Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Councillor Adam Grist, said : “This decision demonstrates our continued commitment to the coast. Although the Council’s leisure budget is under pressure in the current economic climate, I am determined that where possible we will support the wishes of our communities.”
