Leisure centres are an investment

ACCUSATIONS that the district council is wasting tax payers’ money on leisure facilities have been defended as a valuable investment in the health of local people.

A letter printed in the Standard last week accused East Lindsey District Council of wasting £21million on the Meridian Centre in Louth.

A spokesperson for ELDC has pointed out the actual cost of the centre was only £12million.

They also explained that the running costs for that centre are similar to running the Embassy Centre in Skegness and that although leisure centres are a costly resource, they are worthwhile for the beneficial effect on people’s health.
