A seaside themed family fun day and sponsored walk in aid of a rapidly growing dementia awareness group is taking place in Chapel St Leonards this weekend.

The Fellows and Advocates for Brain Deterioration (FAB) group has arranged a whole host of exciting games and activities for Sunday’s event on the village green.

“This is going to be a great day out for all the family, with loads of great prizes to be won, while supporting a very worthwhile cause,” said FAB founder Teresa Tansley.

Kicking off proceedings at 10am will be a mile-long sponsored walk around the village, with dozens of fundraisers taking part.

After their return, at around 11am, the fun and games move into full swing.

With bouncy castles, giant sumo suit wrestling, gladiator rings and face painting, Teresa says there will be plenty on hand for all the family.

Dozens of local businesses have also offered a range of great prizes for the raffle and tombola, which will be the day’s main FAB fundraiser.

Proceeds from the event will go towards FAB’s projector fund, which the group intends to use as part of its reminiscence therapy - helping dementia sufferers by showing them nostalgic videos to trigger memories.

The group, which helps dementia sufferers and their families in and around Chapel St Leonards, has grown rapidly in membership since it was set up earlier this year.

The committee now runs a stall at the village hall car boot sale every Saturday to offer information and advice to those unable to attend its regular Tuesday morning sessions.

FAB will be marking its successful start by coinciding the event with its launch party, officiated by the parish chairman Coun Patrick Naughton, who will be drawing the raffle at 3pm.
