Green Party members gathered at Skegness Station to demonstrate support for public ownership of the railways.
The group were campaigning at the station on Friday with the party’s parliamentary candidate for Boston and Skegness Victoria Percival.
Leaflets were handed out to passengers in support of Green MP Caroline Lucas’ rail nationalisation bill.
The demonstration took place ahead of Stagecoach and Virgin taking over the East Coast mainline route on Sunday (March 1). The franchise had been publicly run since 2009.
Ms Percival said: “At the moment there is £4 billion going into subsidise the railway companies and £200 million into shareholders pockets. There is no accountability when the railways are in private ownership and fares are the highest in Europe. Currently 62 per cent of people want the railway back in public ownership. Politicians should listen to what people want.”
