A championship winning dance duo have teamed up with the Standard to offer its readers free dance classes at a stunning Skegness ballroom.

Max and Jackie Baker are offering free two-hour lessons, worth up to £8, at their Monday night classes at the Grosvenor House Hotel on North Parade.

The talented twosome, who were crowned British Modern & Classical Sequence Champions in 2006, and ranked 4th in the British Senior Sequence class, started classes in ballroom and sequence dancing at the historic hotel two months ago.

Max hopes this fantastic offer will appeal to aspiring dancers of all ages and ability levels looking for a fun new method of keeping fit, socialising or learning a skill.

He said: “Forget your inhibitions, get on the floor and give it a go - it’s your night and your chance to learn something new.

“We will teach you how to move, even if it’s only basic moves, but if you don’t give it a go you will never know.

“It’s a sport and a great form of exercise - if you put your heart and soul into it you will be surprised how many calories you will burn

“Our main aim is for people to enjoy themselves and have a laugh - if you make a mistake it doesn’t matter as long as you are having fun.”

Hotel manager Steve Pickering asked Max and Jackie to begin the classes after they organised a successful social dance for charity at the venue earlier in the year.

Mr Pickering is keen to see the magnificent ballroom brought back into regular use as in its heyday, when it was one of the town’s premier social focal points.

Max and Jackie share Mr Pickering’s vision for the ballroom, which they feel is a great facility, worthy of more frequent use.

Max added: “The ballroom is full of character and really makes you want to dance.

“It’s got a fantastic atmosphere with plush surroundings, a great sound system.”

If the lessons grow in popularity Max said he hopes to host more classes and could also organise regular social dances, and for those special occasions like Christmas and New Year and who knows?

The current classes run every Monday from 7pm to 9pm and a voucher entitles one couple or a single dancer to a free session.

Cut out the voucher in this week’s Standard (November 14th, page 30) and present it at the class.
