Call for action on Burgh le Marsh's 'forgotten road'

Claire Kidson contacted the Standard with concerns about a particular 'crater' outside the home of her mother.

"One pothole in particular is well over 400mm deep and is so big you are unable to avoid it," she explained.

"I have picked stones off the adjacent verge and pavement that are the size of golf balls that are being catapulted out of this hole when cars go through it.

"If one of these missiles hit you at 30mph, you doubtless would be injured. This has been awaiting repair since last year!

"Twice on the (Lincolnshire County Council) reporting page of the highways website, its status has been placed at 'no further action'.

"Really! I regularly update the incident info (ref 370137) and I know that people in the road have also telephoned to complain.

"My mother has to drive through this crater to access her drive. I suspect no county councillor would risk their car for over a year.

"The front of her house is filthy from the dirty rain water that is thrown from this hole.

"If you go look at the abyssmal condition of The Causeway road surface, you must ask yourself why resurfacing a perfectly good road in Horncastle is happening and why both the A158 at Partney and the road from Mavis Enderby to Hundleby has been resurfaced in recent weeks?

"Clearly Covid 19 not a problem for these works. Burgh le Marsh seems to have been totally forgotten by County Council Highways Dept. "

Since Claire originally highlighted the problem, the pothole outside her mother's home has appeared on the LCC's alert as 'very dangerous to pedestrians and cyclist' and 'Action scheduled'. There is also a warning that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, repairs may take 'longer than our usual response'.

Claire commented: "There is no timeline for the repair and my comments still stand.

"Whilst I have a particular interest in the crater outside my mother's house, the whole of The Causeway is a disgrace."
