Ellery gets set for Canadian adventure

Army cadet Ellery Smith, from Skegness, has won selection to take part in a six week camp in the northern Canadian territory of Yukon.

Ellery, 16, is one of a group of 12 chosen from hundreds of UK candidates to take part in Exercise Whitehorse.

A member of Lincolnshire Army Cadet force, Ellery completed an interview and fitness test to win 

The UK group will join 120 cadets from Canada on the expedition.

Ellery was given a canvas map of historic Skegness by Mayor George Saxon to present to the camp.

Skegness Grammar School student Ellery leaves on July 6 for the expedition.

Challenges he will face include trekking, mountain climbing, mountain cycling and kayaking.
