Plans are in hand for the opening of a new school in Skegness which has already been inundated with requests from parents for places.

The Beacon Primary Academy, sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT), will open its doors to reception and year 1 pupils in September.

Corinna Wright has been appointed as the principal and she has now started to prepare the academy for what will be exciting times ahead.

Teaching and support staff are currently being recruited to support Mrs Wright to ensure pupils demonstrate the highest standards of behaviour and achieve outstanding academic progress.

Lisa Wright has joined as the reception teacher.

Mrs Wright said: “Lisa will be fantastic.

“She is an expert in her field, is very approachable and a real asset to our Beacon Primary Academy team.

“The places for the reception children are being filled and the year one places are currently being requested.

“Only children from the Skegness Infant Academy can transfer across to the Beacon Primary Academy at this time due to the additional children that they took on at the beginning of this year as a result of the shortage of school places.“

The multi-million pound building programme to provide state-of-the-art facilities is on schedule to be completed in mid-October.

The temporary and re-modeled building that will be used for the first term aims to provide the opportunity for the children to establish strong relationships with the staff team, get to know each other and provide the children with a fantastic start to the year in a building which aims for a ‘family’ feel.

Mrs Wright said: “I am very much looking forward to the opening of our brand-new academy in September.

“This is a unique opportunity to build an Academy from scratch that will provide an outstanding learning experience for all children.

“The academy will have a strong and clear vision and ethos that will run through the entire staff team, children will enjoy the challenges and real-life experiences prepared for them and parents will be involved in their child’s learning journey all of the way through their time at the academy.”

Children who have secured a place and are due to start in the reception class in September are invited to drop into an open evening tonight (Wednesday), at 6pm at the Skegness Academy on Burgh Road.

Only parents of the children who have been offered places through Lincolnshire County Council’s admissions process are eligible to attend.
