District Council urge public to vote in 2015 elections

On Thursday, May 7 there will be up to three elections in East Lindsey.

But are you ready and able to vote?

This year there will not only be National ‘General’ Elections, where you will choose your MP, there will also be District Council elections where you choose your District Councillor(s), and in some areas Town or Parish Council elections.

So that you are able to vote you need to be registered by Monday, April 20.

The process for registering has changed in the last 12 months so everyone now has to register themselves.

If you haven’t already done so you can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

If you’re unsure whether you are registered to vote contact our Customer Services Team on 01507 601111.

If you wish to change an existing proxy appointment or register for a postal vote your application must be received by 5pm on Tuesday, April 21.

If you wish to register a new proxy vote your application must be received by 5pm on Tuesday April 28.

You can download the forms to apply at www.e-lindsey.gov.uk/may7 or hard copies can be sent to you by calling 01507 601111. If you are likely to be away in the weeks before the election, make sure you get your application in as early as possible if you haven’t already done so, advise the council.

If you have already registered to vote you should receive your polling card this month.

Make sure that you check the card for details of where to vote as there have been changes to some Ward boundaries and Polling Stations this year.

Polling Stations will be open 7am until 10pm on Election Day (May 7).

If you intend to stand for election, your nomination paper needs to be hand delivered to the Returning Officer at Room 27, Tedder Hall, Manby Park, Manby, Louth, LN11 8UP by 4pm on Thursday, April 9.

Your nomination can be delivered by someone else on your behalf.

Please ensure that your nomination paper is properly filled in before submission.

To request a nomination paper email elections@e-lindsey.gov.uk

You can only stand for election in one seat on any Council.

If you have been nominated for more than one seat on any Council you will need to withdraw from the seats you do not wish to stand in by 4pm on Thursday, April 9.
