A 25-year-old woman suffered burning to the back of her throat after drinking a sports drink purchased at a shop in Skegness.

Police officers went to the shop and, as a precautionary measure, seized all the remaining unsold drinks of the same brand.

“Local police worked closely with the Food Standards Agency and ELDC Enviromental Health Officers and it is believed there was no deliberate contamination and that the lid to the drink had been damaged or knocked allowing the drink to prematurely decay,” said a police spokesperson.

“East Lindsey District Council Enviromental Health have taken primacy over this investigation and will be testing the drinks concerned,” they added.
