Serious sex assault sparks Chapel appeal

POLICE in Chapel St Leonards have appealed for information after a 16-year-old girl was seriously sexually assaulted in the resort.

The alleged attack, which took place in broad daylight, occured close to a bench on the front near to the Golden Palm Resort caravan site in South Road.

The bench is situated about 100 metres south of the Moonfleet public house.

The alleged assault is believed to have taken place between 7.15pm and 8.30pm on the evening of Sunday, August 21.

The victim is a 16-year-old girl from Leicestershire.

A 16-year-old youth from Yorkshire has been arrested in connection with the assault.

The two teens are both on holiday in the resort.

The suspect has been interviewed and released on police bail to return to Skegness Police Station at a later date when further enquiries have been concluded.

The officer in the case is Detective Constable Dave Patten, he is an investigator with the Emerald team that investigates serious sexual offences.

He has urged witnesses to contact him.

He said: “I am trying to trace witnesses who may have seen the assault taking place on or near the bench.

“They may not have realised just exactly what was taking place at the time.

“The victim is described as white, 5’6” tall, slim build, mousey brown hair - just over collar length. she was wearing a blue jacket, a white strappy top and denim shorts.

“The suspect is white, 5’9” tall, slim build, with dark brown short hair.

“He was wearing dark blue jeans and a black t-shirt with yellow writing.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who saw the two persons involved either before the incident, as they made their way to the scene from the Golden Palm Resort, or afterwards.”
