ASSURANCES have been made that the police presence at major upcoming events will be sufficient to preserve community safety, despite cuts to funding.

Sergeant Jim Manning ‘guaranteed’ councillors at Wednesday’s Skegness Town Council meeting that there would be adequate staff coverage during the Olympic Torch relay and SO Festival.

Answering Coun George Saxon’s question about how public safety could be assured following police budget reductions, the Sergeant explained that police leave had been cancelled and officers would be transferred in from other areas to ensure adequate staffing.
