Pensioner was allegedly defrauded of her life savings


A case regarding a 95-year-old pensioner allegedly defrauded out of her £484,000 life savings has gone before Lincoln Crown Court.

Jason Bentley, 44, and Rebecca Jayne Bentley, 44, both of Elliott Way, Chapel St Leonards, are each accused of fraud by abuse of position between December 29, 2008, and March 5, 2015.

Denise Philbin, 65, of Connaught Drive, Chapel St Leonards, is accused of theft.

A fourth man appeared in the dock beside them.

Mark Smith, 46, of The Meadows, Skegness, is accused of perverting the course of justice in relation to providing false statements about his financial relationship with Jason Bentley.

No charges were put to the defendants during the brief hearing.

Judge John Pini QC adjourned the hearing until February and all four were granted conditional bail.
